Chinese calligraphy is an expression that involves great skill, precision and is taught to be a reflection of one’s character and personality. Today in China, skilled calligraphy masters still practice the ancient art of poetry writing in public parks and areas. Armed with a handmade sponge taped to a pole, they paint with water instead of ink. Minutes after the beautiful piece of poetry is written, it evaporates. I happened to chance on this master at work in Beijing who gave me the rare opportunity of having my name written in water. Thankful for modern devices such as my DSLR, his work can now be preserved!
